Untold problems with Norton Family

We have three computers and the kids also use two computers at their grandparents' place.   This product looked ideal for our needs, but has been a total disappointment so far, nothing but problems.

First PC install worked okay, second one didn't, had to uninstall and start again.  You have to do things in two places, online and the local install, and if you don't do everything in the exact right way in the right sequence it doesn't work properly.

It wouldn't install at all on one computer, the only one using Windows 7 (the others are all XP), just gave an error message saying it couldn't do it, so we have no protection on that PC.

When running it sometimes creates lots of little icons on the task bar for no apparent reason.

Sometimes it says parental action required with no clue what action is required.

When logging off a protected account it comes up with an error message saying ccSvcHst.exe not responding, have to click end now.

On one of the PCs the timer control doesn't seem to do anything, even when they've run out of time, it just lets them carry on using the PC anyway.

The extend time function did nothing when clicked, didn't work at all.

It reports all the time that it is not running and the computer needs to be restarted,  it also reports that social networking monitoring has been disabled and Norton Family will need to be reinstalled.

This product would be brilliant if it actually worked properly.  As it is, it seems totally flaky.  At this stage I'm trying to decide whether to persevere with it or look for something else.  I just want something that works properly without all these hassles.

Hi nsl1,

You mentioned : "You have to do things in two places, online and the local install..."

Could you elaborate a little on the statement?

You mentioned:  "...error message saying it couldn't do it.."

Could you post a screen shot of the error message?

You mentioned "creates lots of little icons"

This is a known issue.  We are working on this.

You mentioned: "it says parental action required with no clue what action is required"

Please post a screen shot of the message.

For the rest of the statements...they sound like the account is not monitored or the Norton Family is not installed properly...Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall Norton Family on the PCs?

Thanks,

Katie
