DSL connection
With my DSL provider (as probably with most) if I'm logged off the computer/internet for any extended period of time, when I log back on I get a different IP address.
Well I had been logged off for about 9 hours and when I logged back on this morning, of course I had a new IP address
However, I noticed in my activity log that I was immediately blasted by several attempts at reaching my computer via unused ports. Now the unused port blocking has stopped that.
When I look at the log I see either the same IP address tryin different ports or different IP addresses trying the same port.
You can see in the screen shot how frequent this is (and it continues as I type)
So my questions are
1. Most importantly--Given the intensity of these attacks, do I need to log off the internet for awhile to get a new IP address?
(if I simply reboot, I get the same IP address. I have to be off several hours to get a new one)
2. If these attempts by these malicious IP addresses runs across an open port, wil they be able to get in and do damage?
3. Will they wear down my defenses by constantly attacking, that is if they keep trying to hit the same blocked port, will they eventually cause it to open?
