NIS 2010 v 17.8.0.5
Vista Home Premium SP2
DSL modem (with no/perhaps minimal router function)
OK I had posted a question before on this but did not phrase it correctly and asked the mods to remove it.
Hopefully I can explain my question a little bit better.
Let me first explain that my ISP will issue me a new IP address anytime I close off my internet connection for more than 10 minutes. thats cool, I understand that.
Now when I look in my recent history, I tend to see entries that state "unused port blocking has blocked communications...." and will the show some outside IP address trying to access my computer via a port that is not open
Thats cool too, I understand that is normal and Norton has me protected.
But here is what is slightly concerning me.
Usually I'll have a few of these entries every hour or so. Again, thats ccool. I know thats normal.
BUT I have noticed sinec the last time my IP address was assigned to me a few days ago, that there are periods of several hours where there are no such "unused port blocking has blocked...." entries in the log.
Example, Wednesday 5/18/11 during the daytime hours I would get one of these maybe every 90 minutes to 120 minutes.
But last night I got one at 11:30pm and did not get another until 4:28am, almost 5 hours without any.
I know this sounds strange that one would be concerned, but the fact that there are NOT a frequent items logged something to be concerned about?
Or is it just that the IP assigned to me has not been targeted as much as some of the others that have been assigned to me? (my ISP is a MAJOR ISP and in a Major US metro area)
I know the firewall is working because I do get these entries, just not as frequently as before.
Does any of this sound like cause for conecern?
