NIS2009 did an auto liveupdate from 16.0.0.125 to 16.1.0.33, and after reboot NIS2009 will not start at all.
My steps:
-uninstalled NIS2009 after it would not start
-rebooted
-reinstalled version 16.0.0.125 since 16.1.0.33 is not available as a download
-did a livupdate which brought definitions up to date
-rebooted
-did a liveupdate that installed version 16.1.0.33
-rebooted
-same problem - NIS2009 16.1.0.33 will not start at all
I have done this three times, turning off auto-liveupdate and norton's self-protection settings to see if that works and it does not. I have a desktop computer where the update worked, but on my laptop it does not work. License is ok by the way. I did notice that both the old and new engines are listed in the Norton programs folder, but I cannot delete the old engine files to see if that helps (I assume those that have it working still have both engines listed in the program folders). Also, here is a link to another person that I think is having the same problem but may be unaware that he had an update that may have caused this ( http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=19386 ). New thread created to be specific that this is an update related problem on my system and because his problem is not 100% confirmed to be related to the update.
My system stats:
Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop
Vista Home Premium SP1 - 32-bit version
Intel Core Duo T2350 @ 1.87 Ghz Processor
2GB RAM
I am going to remove, reload, and leave auto-updates off for now so I have some protection until Symantec fixes or diagnoses this issue. Thanks in advance for any help to resolve this.
