Hi Alan,
Sounds like the Internet is hungry and eating bits again. See if the easy route works. Do a control panel uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Be sure to run live update and reboot until the program tells you that all of the updates have been downloaded and installed.
Hello acme
What was your previous security program and how was it removed? If it was NAV 2011, did you have any problems with that version? How did you upgrade to new version.? Have you tried the autofix for the program. Have you tried the auto fix?
If you need to uninstall and reinstall, here is the link for NAV 2012
www.norton.com/nav12 (Norton AntiVirus 2012)
Link for NIS 2012
www.norton.com/nis12 (Norton Internet Security 2012)
Please remember to run live update to get all updates and then reboot once more. Thanks.
(thanks to Yaso for the links)
I had AV2011 Norton it never gave me trouble, did uninstall, came back ok , now my Norton 2012 is covered in red due to ALERT- AT RISK 'Your PC is not protected by SONAR Advance Protection'
Went to settings and it was OFF, change to DEFALT SETTINGS, keyed apply then OK., went back to home page but still shows red ALERT, went back to settings, SONAR is off AGAIN. Keyed manually to ON, still goes back to off.
Other words, it won't stay on no matter what I do. I did FIX NOW 4 times ....no dice...
Hello Alan,
How did you uninstall the NAV 2011 from the computer ? If its through add/remove,then run a Norton removal tool from the link www.symantec.com/nrt and then install the 2012 proucts from the below mentioned link based on the product line you have.
Nav 2012 : www.norton.com/nav12
NIS 2012 : www.norton.com/nis12

Hi jspaloalto,
Is your system clock time and date correct?
Yes, system time and date are correct. Windows and browsers are patched up to date.
A follow up. Thanks for the time/date clue.
Although the time and date were correct, I tried setting the date into the future, re-booting, and then resetting the correct date. NIS now seems happy . . . no longer posting messages about definitions out of date.

Hi,
Neat trick. Glad to see that all is well. The reboots couldn't have hurt either
Glad it turned out to be a system clock thing, afterall. It certainly sounded like that is what it had to be, and I was stumped if it didn't involve the time and date. Keep an eye on your system clock when you first boot the computer. It may be that a dying CMOS battery is causing the clock to lose track of time when the PC is off, but once it boots and checks online for a time update, the clock may be corrected and appear to be accurate.
