On my father's PC at his home (in the Netherlands), Norton Antivirus is installed. It's registered and has a "valid thru" date of more than a year.

In the bottom right of the screen (the task bar) this software shows up with a white cross across a red background. When I open it up and tell it to download the "beschermingsupdates" (that's Dutch...) it starts doing that, tells me it's OK, lets me click the "voltooien" ("finish") button, and then.... nothing seems to have happened. The cross is still there, the status still shows as "in gevaar" ("in danger", or maybe "endangered"?) and I can go through the whole procedure again till hells freezes over. I do not think that the computer IS actually in danger there, but I just don't want it to scare an old man. My father is 76 years old and shouldn't need to bother about this....

Any suggestions?

Hi TMW

Can you please run Live Update manually, then restart your PC and see if the warning comes back. If so, can you please give the exact warning message you are getting, thanks.

Edit: If the version of NAV on your father's PC is earlier than 2009 (but 2006 or later), you should visit the Norton Update Center to get a free upgrade to the latest version of NAV.
