hi all--
I am happy to report that not only is an updated version of LiveUpdate available, that addresses some of the issues users are seeing, but I have confirmed that our new scan engine is available. This update is awesome--you'll see:
1 - much faster scans -- about 3x as fast
2 - even more coverage of malware, including "jokeware" and other crimeware/adware apps (right now this is mostly a Windows problem so you'll see more Windows threats being caught, but we'll continue to add Mac defs as we go).
Anyway, it's available now for all of consumer and enterprise antivirus products.
thanks,
mike

It doesn't appear to have made Friday's Live Update distribution package, which means it probably won't be out before Monday.

Do you know what the version numbers are/will be? The original post said it was coimng, but made no mention how to discern if it was installed.
Thanks!
I do not know. But I presume the main version number will be higher than the 11.0.2 that was current before this.

hi --
You should all already have it. here are two ways to check:
- If you look in /Library/Application Support/Symantec/AntiVirus/Engine and see the files libecomlodr.dylib and ecsvrmac.dlb, then you have it.
- if the date of your AV defs is August 27 or later, you have it.
thanks,
mike
Those 2 files are there on my system.
OK, then I've already got it, even though the product version number still shows as 11.0.2.
Thanks for the info!

I have the two files, but I can't seem to find a date for the virus definitions. How would I do that? In the activity log?
Thanks

hi--
you should be able to see the latest defs date when you open up Norton AntiVirus. you can also run LiveUpdate from the QuickMenu and see the dates after checking for an update.
let me know!
-mike
I tried both before I posted, and neither shows a date. Live Update displays "NAV for Macintosh Virus Defs LATEST", and I can't seem to locate a date when I open the full NAV product. What could I be doing wrong?
What version of the product are you using?
Version 11.0.2 (35)
By the way, is there any way for me to eliminate the CAPTCHA challenge EVERY time I post?
Thanks !
you're not looking in the right place. Open up liveupdate and you will see 3 options;
Customize this Update Session,
Update Everything,
Symantec Scheduler
(if you click any of these options you won't see any dates)
But just underneath those options are dates of last checked, and last update
or you can just open up Norton AntiVirus you should see the date of last update in the top right hand corner just under date of last scanned.
Welcome to the community, DCIFRTHS! CAPTCHA is a security measure for the Norton Community new users. Once you have posted a few times, it will no longer be required!
Hope that helps you! If you have further quesitons, please feel free to ask!

@ MasterMaiden: Thanks for the instructions. I now see the date. I have to admit that I passed that by so many times, and I never would have seen it if you didn't point it out.
both dates are currently at September 2, 2009

@ shannons:
Thanks for the welcome and information.
I have been a registered on this forum since 04-09-08. I am guessing that it is a certain post count that disable CAPTCHA. Can you tell me what that number is?
Thanks!
posts? Nope
…and it is very inconvenient.
