Updated to NIS 2012 and now it says only trial period

I updated my subscription to NIS 2012 and when I finished downloading it said that my product key was too long.  But I checked and my subscription doesn't expire for another 6 months.  I looked at my online account and tried putting in the product key from there but it still says it is incorrect.  How do I get it to recognize my subscription?

How did you "update"? Did you renew online with Norton or did you buy a new copy and use the key from that (which is a perfectly OK way to do it and save money)?

If you bought a new copy would you please tell us where you got the previous version and where you got the copy you used to renew.

I ask this not only because there are a lot of scams about on the internet but also depending on what country you are in certain retailers legitimately sell versions that use a slightly different KEY format.  Are you by any chance in the UK?
