I'm using Norton AntiVirus and Windows XP. After a threat named xul.dll(Suspicious.Cloud.9.B) appears, Firefox refuses to open because of a Runtime error. In the past I've temporarily mended the problem by reinstalling Firefox, which works until another updater.exe appears.
When I'm on the internet using Mozilla Firefox, I occasionally see a pop-up from Norton in the bottom right corner notifying me that a file named updater.exe is "safe". I haven't noticed a specific site nor a common time since the browser was opened, which triggers this event. The file is apparently downloaded to an unknown location without my permission. Immediately after the download occurs, Norton recognizes it as a threat named xul.dll(Suspicious.Cloud.9.B) and claims to have successfully quarantined it. If Firefox is open while this happens I can freely browse the internet until I close the window. After Firefox has been closed it refuses to open again because of a Runtime error... I can't remember how the error was worded exactly.
Like I said above, I can get Firefox working again if I reinstall it but that doesn't protect me against any future occurrences. When I look over Norton's history to see the problems it has fixed, I have three or four quarantined malware named xul.dll(Suspicious.Cloud.9.B), labeled as a high security risk. There's one for each time I've had this problem with updater.exe. Reinstalling Firefox once or twice per day is a real hassle, obviously it would be great if this could be fixed as soon as possible. Any information you can give me to defend against this nuisance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
