Sorry for the problems. Please follow these instructions so we can get more information:
1. Download GatherSymantecInfo.zip from:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/tools/mactools/GatherSymantecInfo.zip
2. Expand GatherSymantecInfo.zip by double clicking it (if it opens with StuffIt or some other 3rd party archive utility, then you might need to change permissions on it.)
3. In GatherSymantecInfo folder, double-click GatherSymantecInfo.command.
4. When prompted, enter your computer user password.
5. When prompted for a subscription key, simply press return.
6. Attach the generated SymantecInfo.txt file to your reply here on the forums.
If the SymantecInfo.txt file is too large to attach here or you're not comfortable posting it here, contact me with a private message and I'll send you my e-mail address.
Ryan,
I am receiving the same error message when running liveupdate. I have Norton for Mac 10.6.6.
Can i follow these same steps and email you the .txt file?
Yes follow the same steps. Try to upload the .txt file here on the forums, and if that doesn't work, then send me a private message and I'll give you my email address.
Dear Ryan,
I got similar problem during liveupdate. Can you help as well?
Peter
I see the following at liveupdt.log. Is it related to the error??

You may be experiencing a problem related to the signing servers. Earlier this year, our signing certificate expired and was replaced by a new version of LiveUpdate.
Please open the Symantec Solutions folder in the Finder (Applications -> Symantec Solutions) and select the LiveUpdate application. Select "Get Info" from the FIle menu in the Finder, and look at the version information for LiveUpdate. It should say "Version: 5.1.2".
Next, go to the LiveUpdate folder by following these steps:
1. In the Finder application choose "Go to Folder…" from the Go menu.
2. Copy and paste the following (without the quotes):
"/Library/Application Support/Symantec/LiveUpdate"
and click Go.
3. There should be a file in that folder called "jlu-3.6.20.jar". You may see a file called jlu.jar, but there should be an additional file called "jlu-3.6.20.jar".
If either of these conditions are not met, you may not have received the update to LiveUpdate for some reason.
Ryan
Dear Ryan,
I ran the checks you mentioned and have determined that I did *not* receive the update for LiveUpdate.
So now what do I do? Where can I get it?
Thanks!
FN
PS from FN:
Sorry, I forgot to give you my specs:
I have a Power Mac G4
OS X , Version 10.4.11
Norton Antivirus for Macs
Version 11.1.2 (17)
LiveUpdate is 5.1.1f18
jlu-3.2.10.jar
For over a week now, every time LiveUpdate tries to run, an error message pops up with the generic line: "There was an error performing the update" — no numbers or details. That doesn't give me any alternatives or course of action.
The one place online I found to download the update for LiveUpdate is here:
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080407120325EN&ln=en_US
But it insists that I must use Internet Explorer to download it. However, Internet Explorer has no current version for Macs.
I'm using Safari. When I click the button at the above site, nothing happens.
So where can I find the update? Please advise.
Thanks,
FN
That looks like a link to the Windows LiveUpdate. Assuming your LiveUpdate will not update itself to 5.1.2, there is an updater here:
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100414123129EN&ln=en_US
Thank you for the advice!
That worked. Now LiveUpdate itself has been updated, and it then kicked in and updated everything else: virus defs, etc.
Thanks again!
FN
Downloading and installing 5.1.2 worked for me too!!
Thanks for the help!!!
