Upgrade from OEM NIS 5 to NIS 9; preserving NIS 5's profiles

I have NIS 5 on my HP that was installed by HP when I purchased it.  I have since upgraded the Live Updates several times.  It took me a long time to set all the different user preferences and many of the "allow this and that".

I want to upgrade to NIS 9, but am worried that I will have to start all over again tuning it back to the way NIS 5 ran with my needs.

1.  Do I have to uninstall NIS 5 or will NIS 9 do this automatically?  If I hsve to do it is there a Norton uninstaller that is better than MS's?

2.  If it is uninstalled will my preferences be saved and used when NIS 9 installed?

3.  If not how do I keep all my preferences to make the transition easy?

I remember years ago Norton was very good at installing a new upgrade.  They not only did the install automatically and installed the new version, but kept my preferences and also created safe restore of the older version if something went wrong.

4. What about my old Live Update subscription.  Should I make the transition when it expires or will I get any credit for the balance towards a new subscription service.

5  Will the old Live Update program and files be removed too?  If not, how?

I have always been a Norton user, but also have heard of horror stories and don't want to become one of them.

Thanks,  Jbeach
