I am a little concerned that offline scanning is no longer comprehensive on the recently upgraded version of Norton internet security. If you try to run it without the internet on you get a message saying only limited scan is available. If I understand correctly, this is because v22 uses cloud based virus definitions. I have been in touch with norton chat support and it seems like I have to go back to version 21 if I want to do full offline scans. I've been thinking on this further, and I am trying to decide whether to stay with v22, or uninstall it and then reinstall v21. First, I am concerned that at some stage version 21 might stop being supported? Will I be able to re-subscribe to v21 next year and the year after? Second, I would like to know how Norton plans to protect users of v 22 if they accidentally download a virus that uses the internet to attack your computer? If you accidentally download something that you are worried about then you would want to run a comprehensive scan, and you would want to be offline while you did the scan to minimize further damage being done while Norton looks for the virus wouldn't you? Norton might take a couple of hours to find the virus if its hidden somewhere only a full system scan (rather than a quick scan) can find it. Is there some way you can run the internet in a limited fashion (so that Norton can run its cloud based virus definitions but so that someone (e.g .via a Trojan) cannot do damage to your computer through the internet while the scan is running)? Cheers
