Upgrading from NIS to N360 and backing up Identity Safe Data

Hi,

I just upgraded from NIS to n360.  The N360 would not install, but I did find what I needed to do to fix it.  The problem is that the 1st step is to backup the NIS Identity Safe Data (before uninstalling it) and it expired while I was trying to get the new package loaded.  I really don't want to lose my data!  What can I do?

Hello mcwjourney,

I gather that you were not able to complete the ID Safe backup process, correct?

If so, you can try this:

  1. Be sure your Folder Options are set to "Show hidden files and folders".
  2. Search My Computer for IdentitySafeDataStore. Depending upon your operating system it may be located in Documents and Settings or elsewhere. You should be looking for one that references NIS: ({0C55C096-....}\ NIS_xx.x.x.\IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21-....
  3. Expand the folders IdentitySafeDataStore > S-1-5-21-.... and copy just the contents of the S-1-5-21 .... folder to a new folder in a convenient location. (Inside the folder you should see an IDDStore file and an IDDStore_bak file along with a number of favicons - copy all)

To restore the Identity Safe Data:

  1. If you have not done so already, create an Identity Safe profile on the new installation.  Do not import any IE logins.
  2. Search for and locate the N360 IdentitySafeDataStore on your new installation and make a note of it.
    In windows 7 x 64 the location is: C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-....}\ N360_4.x..\IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21-....
  3. Restart your computer in Safe Mode.
  4. Navigate to the new IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  5. Delete any content in the S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  6. Paste the previously copied individual contents into the S-1-5-21 .... folder.
  7. Restart your computer in regular mode.

Check your identity Safe to see if it now displays your data. If so, I highly recommend Backing up your Identity Safe Data right now.
