Perhaps it's a stupid question, but I found no way to save my NIS 2009 program control settings (I have some programs blocked) to NIS 2010. Am I wrong?
Thanks for help.

I know that is one way to upgrade NIS from 2009 to 2010 is used Norton Removal Tool - uninstall NIS2009 and install full wersion NIS2010. More... this tool (NRT) uninstaling all Norton aplication whose install on computer. This is a good idea? Not for me.
Nothing way to upgrade NIS2009 to 2010 without this?
I already upgraded from NIS2009 to NIS2010 on one computer, without any problem, simply following inntructions (no need of NRT).
My only (minor) problem is to save firewall settings, as I am going to upgrade on two more computers.
What instruction? Could you send a link?
How I can upgrade NIS2009 to 2010 without uninstalation?
Hi AstroMax,
You cannot back up firewall settings in NIS 2009. There is no possibility of doing this :-/
I chatted with a Symantec customer support agent a few weeks ago, asking whether NIS 2010 would take over the firewall settings from NIS 2009 (not possible with earlier versions because of the different engine technology), and he said that NIS 2010 should ask you during the installation whether you want to transfer your firewall settings from NIS 2009 or not. However, I myself upgraded to NIS 2010 via the removal tool (so it wiped out all my settings) and from NIS 2007, not NIS 2009, so I cannot verify what the agent said.
I downloaded autodetectpkg.exe from here
http://updatecenter.norton.com/
then it found new update from NIS2009 to NIS2010 and I followed instructions.
It will download nsdownloader.exe, will delete nis 2009 and install nis2010.
All went OK.

Glad all went well :-D So NIS 2010 asked you whether it should transfer the firewall settings from NIS 2009, or did it do so automatically?
But NIS 2010 didn't ask me any question..... so I had to manually restore my firewall settings.
A bit annoying but I can live with it.....

So the support agent was wrong :-/ Thanks for the feedback, this is good to know.
Verdict: there is still no way of transferring firewall settings from one NIS version to the next.
For many years I have complained/asked that NIS provide an option to map all settings from the previous version to a newly installed version --or at the very least provide a way to manually print all settings before removing the old version, so that they can be manually entered into the newer version.
While many Norton/Symantec folks have agreed that this would be a good addition (including those frequenting this forum) it still has not been implemented. Very disappointing.
