Hi there,
How can I upgrade to NIS2007/2008 from 360 without pating out too much again, and avoiding downloading 50-100MB update downloads (no broadband connection)?
I'm a long term user of norton products, and enjoy the control aspects, particularly over what a norton product "automatically" fixes.
I tried to renew NIS2007 a few weeks ago, but the code provided by symantec did not work, instead strangely allowed for a download of NIS2008, but no renewed subscription. Getting through to symantec was difficult to impossible - I live in asia, and have poor access to broadband.
Still needing a renewed subscription, I cut my losses and tried to find a CD of NIS2008 - almost impossible in Indonesia and Thailand. I did not have sufficient access to broadband to download, and Norton did not like my IP address at times.
I ended up getting 360. After an attempted comparison, the information from norton seemed to indicate 360=NIS2008+Systemworks. But it doesn't, offering practically no control and some very annoying features (no ignore alert buttons, excessive registry editing) rendering some of its applications unuseable.
Best solution: I want NIS2007 or 2008 back! Without having to re-download 18 months of updates over a non-broadband connection! I feel put out by norton's bad packaging, difficult to reach customer service and the fact I have paid out twice and ended up worse off. Any suggestions?
Hi Philmac,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It seems that online business has moved to assuming that every user has access to a broadband connection, which as you point out is not the case. Unfortunately, if you have purchased N360 (from our website or elsewhere), there's no automated way to exchange it for another product. If you do wish to purchase NIS online, you can choose to download the program which I believe is about 80MB, plus another 10-20MB for the first set of definitions (subsequent updates should not be as large). Otherwise you can choose to have the product mailed to you.
What I would recommend would be contacting customer service from our website and requesting a refund for N360 (within 60 days of its purchase), then purchasing a physical disk copy of NIS08, either online or in a local software dealer.
Hope this answers your question and best of luck with your issue.
