a while ago i had this app which let me use different webcams as ip cameras. there were a couple different apps. a few i paid for because they were just a few dollars, so i just decided to try them out. none of the pro/paid versions of these apps offered me a sense of resilience or out-of-the-box fuctionality that norton antivirus offers.
i see norton trying to push email masks and dark web monitoring services bundled with regular purchases of their antivirus. for example i am a fan of norton utilities ultimate. i like to scan my registry often and check for driver updates and things like that.
one really cool new app that norton came out with is the norton secure browser. its just a good web browser. i use it as much as i use edge on my pc and as much as i use safari on my iphone.
alas, i digress. similar to how my norton subscriptions come with the norton secure browser, norton utilities ultimate, and driver updater, i would like to see A Good Quality IP Cam Viewer Application.
The best example i can describe would be some standalone configurable application that runs across all platforms. "tinyCam Pro" is one of the applications I had used with moderate success in the past. I think i originally found it on android play store and used an old tablet or device with a webcam as a neat spy camera. it kept running out of battery though.
so i have an azure kinect with depth sensing point cloud capabilities. even ignoring the point cloud capabilities, "tinyCam Pro" offers things like facial/object recognition, motion detection and on demand recording of any anomalous activity a smartphone running this software detects. this application's user interface suggests it is very easy to, maybe send an email notification or perhaps a toast notification no matter whether or not you are connected to your home wifi network or out and about on cellular data. for example, configurations include "if a Sound Anomaly above Threshold [userdefined integer] then 1. start recording and save this data to (maybe google drive, or localdisk, or other cloud service, offer alternatives to filling up your norton backup drive.
or like,
if motion detection(image recognition [literally ignoring point cloud capabilities] detect(facialrecognition or bodyrecognition or anomalousSoundEvent) then record At a higher Datarate and Quality for [userdefined: 60 seconds] promt: userdefined setting saveto; location. && send emailto: myemail@gmail.com.
most of the compute effort done using this app is done server side. if you have a cheap android phone running the NortonCam app, then likely its a 720p and 6 fps sort of dealio that the device just isnt a powerful computer and even though your settings could push it to the max quality and bandwidth, it just laggs.
not so with a base station, accessing this secure videostream remotely using your cellular offers little problem, though going the other way around that remote device needs powerful battery and powerful compute power and reliable bandwidth to process imagerecognition events and send emails and notifications to remote devices, all while securely offering authenticated access to this datastream. you need a decent device to run this. it should run on any device, windows, mac, ios, android, whatever u got it should all work together in the same app.
install this app on one of your devices? it automatically installs the server AND the client side so that each device enumerates every one of its cameras (even through virtual machines) and offers it up to any other device with the same nortonCam app installed on it.
The norton servers dont deal with the videostreams and massive high quality data (if you dont configure them to save recordedAnomalies to your NortonBackupCloudDrive.) all the norton cloud servers do is offer cross platform enumeration of all web cameras and all microphones of all devices. lets you remotely access them (against your own discretion, cellular uses your dataplans) and offers convenient quality adjustmant storage management and notification management of anomalousEvents that paying users of Ultimate Norton Subscriptions are able to feel their configurations are secure and reliable.
would be cool
