Using GHOST on New Computer to Recover Old Data?

Not quite sure how to search the Archives for this; so, will post a new Query.

[Running Win XP SP3, GHOST 14, Maxtor External/USB HDD for GHOST backup/recovery data.]

My Toshiba laptop is now about 6-years old.  Been a trusty machine.  But, I suspect that some day (soon?) there will be a h/w problem (cpu, video, DVD unit, etc) that will make it uneconomic to fix.

So... how do I get all my HDD data (from the Maxtor) over to a new computer -- say, one running Win 7?

Will GHOST 14 (or 15) do this, on the new computer?  Say, install GHOST on my new computer, hook-up the Ext. HDD from my old computer, and tell GHOST to "Recover My Computer"?

Does my question make sense?  I'm struggling a little on how to define this issue.

Appreciate any help.
