I could easily write an essay for this post as I've been in the industry for years and got a really good feel for what's out there. At home I've used many of the large players including Symantec's Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee (urgh! never again), AVG and others. The funny thing is, although many of these products are decent and very good I've always had a soft spot for Norton.
The whole memory thing which seems to have dogged Norton's past reputation was usually the only thing that prevented me from recommending it on low spec machines, (sorry Symantec but I've witnessed the speed of older versions), but the 2008 family of products is an incredible jump back to glory :)
Needless to say I have a full Symantec rollout at home right now. I did have Windows Live OneCare but like I said Norton does it for me every time. Also one thing that Windows Live OneCare can't do that Norton 08 can is that you can monitor more than three machines at once. For some strange reason OneCare V2.x will only allow you to monitor three computers. It's fair enough to say that OneCare is pitched at the home user and it's unlikely that Joe User will have more than three machines but why impose such a rule? (Plus... Microsoft... woo over here! I use more than three machines at home!)
Hi,
I use additionally Acronis True Image 11 and Acronis Disc Director 10 for backup and partitioning. I like Disc Directors boot manager because it handles my Windows and Linux systems and True Image has a wonderful Try and Decide feature as well as a nice interface for recover backups if my windows or linux system fails to start. The backups are stored in a hidden partition so that Windows has no access to these files---and no viruses...

Hi s4u,
lies next to me and awaits installation. But I have a running subscription for NIS 2008 at the moment. The beta-test went fine for Norton 360...

What about your subscription for 360 than?
I hope that the subscription run at the moment I install N360. I've never used the product key I got for the beta-test.

Lars
It will.
So no need to worry

Evert MaurerHahaI'm just a curious guy.And offcourse we need to start some conversationsYes, I have always been using Norton... (almost complete range) for years... For curiosity tried several other packages but never used it for long time... Perhaps an emotional feeling but trust in a product is very important....Evert Maurer (The Netherlands)
