I have NIS 2009 (16.7.2.11) and have a very high CPU load. NIS uses 47% from the CPU capacity almost continuously. This problem appeard when i have upgraded my pc to Windows 7. Therfore i didn’t have anny porblems with NIS.

Are you still seeing the problem in Windows 7. I'm not able to follow from your post if the problem still exists or disappeared after upgrading to Win7.
Here is my suggestion. Even though, you have NIS 16.7.2.11, which works fine on Win7, I would highly recommend that you upgrade to NIS 17.0 (2010). This upgrade won't cost you anything and its certainly worth giving a try.

If you decide to upgrade to NIS 2010 (and it's very much worth it), then you can do so via the Norton Update Center over here:

PeHa5772,
You need to upgrade to NIS 2010. With your current NIS 2009 subscription, the upgrade is free. Just follow Yaso's instructions.
Just a small addition: NIS 2009 is only compatible with Windows 7 if it has the 16.7.2.11 patch (you can read more over here). Unfortunately, this patch is only available via LiveUpdate - the NIS 2009 installer on the Symantec website does not include this compatibility patch (yet), and neither does the disc version. Overall, as mentioned before, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to NIS 2010.
Yes, I saw that too late.

Lol, that happens to all of us ;-))))
Hi Yaso_Kuuhl et al
re > user reported high CPU load with Win7 [....]
Respectfully curious...Why the presumption that user CPU load is related to 09 product. All that is known is user Upgraded to Win7. Forums and blogs are alive with Win7 users reporting high CPU load. A search of High CPU load with Win7 populates a myriad of possible causes unrelated to any Norton product. Might user be helped by first running Process Explorer Link
User Upgraded to Win7...Too many unknowns. Anything may be causal to high CPU usage with any OS installed on any System. Just my 2 cents

Hi bjm_,
The OP wrote "NIS uses 47% from the CPU capacity almost continuously."
I take that to mean that the Norton column of the NIS main screen performance display indicates Norton is using 47%. If that is not the case, your point is correct.
Hi Brubaker
re > The OP wrote "NIS uses 47% from the CPU capacity almost continuously."
Point taken and understood. The Norton Forum however is alive with 2010 users also reporting high CPU usage. The 2010 users w high CPU usage may all be referring to System column. This user does appear to be referrencing the Norton column....so, I see your point. I had unusually high CPU usage recently...System and Norton. I backtracked via Task Manager and found Media Video process running. I must have closed page without first stopping Flash Video and process was still running. Just an End Process via TM and my unusually high CPU usage issue was resolved. Norton Internet Security monitors the overall system CPU usage and memory usage and the Norton-specific CPU usage and memory usage. The OP does not report System CPU usage. Is is really just that simple. Norton CPU usage (high) equals Norton drain on System CPU usage. So, it must be Norton product. Why not high System CPU useage (unknown reasons) causal and reflects high Norton CPU usage. Just an observation...not meant to disuade user or dismiss recommendations for Upgrade to 2010 product.
