Viber detected as malware. Very weird. Both NMS and viber are latest versions from google play store, and liveupdate was run prior to scan
It appears something got corrupted in the app data for NMS. User D Evans found here that clearing the app data fixed things.
Anyone still having false positives should try clearing NMS app data in Android Settings.
I deleted the app, as per advice of Norton, then installed, sofar it's fine. I don't allow all permissions, hate background data and location is out of the question for any app. But that should not be an issue for Norton, anything remotely associated with google wants your location, seems life isn't possible without my cellphone knowing where I am.
Viber never came up before, I also have it on another phone, also with norton, no issues there. Problem is solved, just would like to have Norton be more clear as to why it flagged Viber, just like on my PC.
rinuslaptop:I have the same issue, version 201609022009 as virus definition date, but viber stays a bad guy, how is this possible? Norton only states it's bad, not why etc, I am annoyed that all of a sudden out of the blue Norton says viber is bad
Is this the App Advisor feature flagging the app? If so, this is not a malware detection. It is just reporting that the app is asking for permissions that you may not be comfortable with accepting, like background data usage, or high battery usage. You have to decide if you are willing to accept these permissions.
Mine is fixed. I didn’t uninstall anything. I just reran LiveUpdate and Viber is no longer flagged.
I had the the same issue but uninstalled viber and reinstalled mobile security. I updated mobile security as recommended and installed viber. After this I get the message that viber is safe. Problem solved.

With version 20160902009 everithyng is OK now. Viber is save...
version 20160902009 still marks viber as having malware.
If it will help narrowing down the offending version version 20160901005 also marked viber as having malware.
I have installed some of the apps reported here that were detected as malicious, and I get not warnings.
Can you check your Activity Log and look for the last time LiveUpdate was run. Tap on the 3 bars at top left of NMS screen, and tap on Activity Log. Within that group of log entries look for Norton Mobile Security Virus Definitions version 20160902009. If you do not see that version, please run LiveUpdate manually and then scan your device again to see if your app is still detected. Again tap on 3 bars, and then tap on App Settings and scroll to the bottom and tap Run LiveUpdate.
I'll pass this along to my Norton Contacts, as unfortunately there is currently no way to submit mobile apps for evaluation as false positives.
FYI The App Advisor does not check for malware. I just checks for possible risks in the permissions the app asks for, or if it the data use may be high. The user then has to decide if they are willing to accept what the app wants to access on the device.
Just to add, viber is marked as no risk by app advisor
