Videos not playing with Norton 360

I KNOW Norton 360 is causing this because I installed it today. Videos stopped working (youtube, vevo, everywhere). I uninstalled it. They are working now. What gives? I tried temporarily disabling the firewall when I had it and it didn't work. Uninstalling it resolved the problem. I like Norton, but simply cannot use if it this happens.

I can understand how frustrating this would be for you. This could be happening due to plug-ins that are out of date. You should try to update your browser plug-in and see if that helps. The plug-ins that you need to update are as follows:

Adobe Flash Player plug in: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Java plug in: https://www.java.com/en/download/

Silverlight plug-in: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx

My plugins are up to date. Streaming media works when I uninstall Norton... so I doubt it even has to do with being the latest software.

Hi,
Try reinstalling Norton, rebooting, running live update until the program tells you that all updates have been downloaded and installed - then. Shut down, wait a few minutes and reboot. Please report back what happens

Thanks

Do you now or have you ever had another security program on your computer? If so, you will have to remove it with the removal tool for that program.

What browser and version are you using?

Do you have another browser installed to test the videos?

What other plugins do you have enabled? Try disabling all to see if things change.

I have the same problem.

The latest version of chrome.

IE - same result.

What plugins you mean?

Tested it on another PC with same settings, all works properly

Plug ins, extensions, or add ons are extra features you add to the browser to add to your browsing experience. Sometimes they do not all work well together and you have to make sure they are all up to date.

I do not use Chrome, but I have read that because of a change in the way Chrome uses add ons, you need to go to the Google store to get updates to all your extensions/add ons.

None of them are enabled.

What do u think about reinstaling my OS, could it probably help to instal Norton 360 on a clean Windows 8.1?

IMHO....in order for videos to run, the add-ons that the websites use to run video need to be enabled I think.

You can set permissions for the add-ons...I have mine set to ask before they load so I'm not inundated with all the page ads that seem to be so popular these days.

if you use you tube, you need to have your flash player allowed.

if you use netflix you need to have your silverlight allowed.

disabling them will not allow video.

I hope this helps. I'm not a tech by any stretch of the imagination lol so I do hope this helps you though.

if not, stay on the thread and the more educated of the forums will continue to work with you for a solution.

May have been.. (Not 100% Sure) you may have PuPs

Norton may be blocking some ads caused by PuPs that is using your FlashPlayer or java...

I'm not 100% sure but since there is no Troubleshooting yet you may try running a Cleaner like ADW cleaner to clean up some PuPs...

P.S. Im not sure if it's going to work...

Omg.. i thought about toolbars and etc. I got adobe flash, java and silverlight. And all of them are enabled.

I dont think that they are the problem cause without Norton 360 all works..

I could still find no resolution for my problem on this forum and others..
