Hi all,
Recently I've learned of two factor authenication (2FA) for Norton products so I decided to go ahead with it.
The setup was painless. But here's the strange part:
When I went to login with Norton Management (webpage login) I type in my email and password as usual and expected to see the gate page for the 2FA code but instead it went straight for the home page on Norton Management.
I then logged out and went back to login.norton.com to see if 2FA was working. Everything is fine. No computers or mobiles are listed as trusted and have 2 forms of verification.
I then tried logging in with mynortonaccount.com and that works.
Logged into management a second time and no 2FA was present.
Am I missing something?
Hi Nikhil,
I decided to reset everything and see if that does anything.
This is what I did and done previously:
Logged in via login.norton.com
My options are VIP access (desktop) and phone text. I don't have a smartphone yet so mobile app is out.
Installed the desktop app, input the credential id and 6 digit code.
Input my phone number and received a text message with another code.
Nothing listed as trusted and 2FA is clearly stated as ON.
Tried a few other things like downloading a fresh VIP desktop app.
Switching the phone text to default.
The results are still the same. Norton Management bypasses the 2FA code. Login.norton.com and mynortonaccount.com require the code.
Methinks there is a glitch or something with the desktop app and management not playing nicely.
I have the VIP app installed for my laptop.
(but havent used it over a month)
May be its a glitch with settings.
1) Can you see if there is an alternate option to login on the web page where you enter the code received via mobile.
I dont know whether reinstalling VIP will change your credential ID.
2)Re-enter the cred id and instant code.
3)Try toggling the 2FA option Off and On.
4)Make sure to set the default 2FA option as VIP app.
5)Make sure you havent set ‘remember me’ / ‘stay signed in’.
6)Use another browser or system and check if its working.
That may help.

1) For logins that ask for the code, the phone text option is available (assuming phone text is an active option)
2) Reinstalling the desktop app does reset the cred id, you need to select to wipe everything. Best that you wipe 2FA off your account first.
3) Tried that without a full wipe. Doesn't work.
4) Tried that and the phone text as default. Both don't work.
5) I never have this selected for anything.
6) Firefox is my main, Chrome is my backup. Nothing changed using Chrome.
Nothing works. Every time I log into management, it always bypasses the code.
At this stage, it appears Norton Management isn't connected with 2FA or that it's bugged in some way.
Nikhil, when you log in to Norton Management, does it ask you for a code?
Perhaps going through the steps I took (outlined above), maybe you could replicate the problem.
Did you ever get Norton Management to offer the 2FA? I cannot see anywhere to set that up. The only Norton site I have seen to use 2FA is the Norton Zone site.
That's the very problem I am trying to get around - Norton Management does not offer or ask for the code. There may be others that I am not aware of.
When I setup 2FA for anything, I expect it to apply to ALL related accounts. When I setup 2FA with Google, it applies to gmail, play store, maps etc. When I setup 2FA with Battle.net, it applies to all games, forum account and Blizzard store.
When I setup 2FA for Norton, why does it seem to not apply to all products?

I cannot answer for Norton, but it could be that the Norton Zone has been set up for business users, (as well as home users), and thus they decided they needed the added security at login.
The other Norton sites are for home users, and may be deemed not as needy of the extra security.
Maybe you should post as a suggestion in the Product Suggestions board.
I've made a post in the suggestion forum in an existing thread but I have doubts Norton will follow up on that.
I just find it mind boggling that 2FA seemingly only applies to a select number of Norton products.
A friend of mine recently had a live chat with a customer rep. He found out that two-factor is apparently working as intended - it's account only. It does not apply to Norton Management and Identity Safe and presumably everything else.
It's basically 2FA at the bare mimimum. It's not good enough.
