But when I scan it with AntiVirus, it declares it clean (despite the "Norton has blocked W32...." message coming up about 30 times during the scan, and still coming up after it's declared clean).
Can someone give me any advice? I formatted my hard drive recently and restored everything to factory settings, and so the only copy I'e got of about 8 gigs of music is on this iPod (which I of course can't copy back to my computer anyway..... Thanks Apple!).
It seems to me that Intrusion Prevention has Blocked this Internet Threat from accessing your iPod.
I would Update your Norton Product - with the iPod in your computer - and then boot in to Safe Mode and do a Full System Scan.
The easiest way to solve this is backing up your ipod and restore through iTunes

Thanks, that’s fixed it now.

Would you kindly post how you resolved this for others who may come across this thread, trying to solve the same problem for themselves?
If it is connecting to the computer ok and you need to get the music off of it, you can try to view the hidden folders and pull the song files off of it. There are some straightforward instructions here:

When doing this though, be advised, the filenames are random letters and nothing meaningful. It will not be until you get them into iTunes that you'll see the song name, artist, etc.
