I've got a cute little worm on my PC. It shuts down any program I try to run as soon as I open it, even the Windows Task Manager. It loads on start-up and I can't get it to shut off.
I managed (I'm not sure how) to get my Norton updated to 360 v5.0, but when it removed the old Norton that my computer came with and restarted the computer...the virus shuts the Norton installer down as soon as it starts up. I can't finish the installation and now I have absolutely no virus protection...not that it matters, I can't run a program to get another virus anyway.
I've pulled the net cable from the PC to halt any phishing the virus might try while I'm not paying attention to it.
I'm on my back-up computer trying to figure out how to get Norton to finish installing, so I can fix my primary computer.
The virus manifests as a fake anti-virus program called Privacy Protection. Any time I try to open a program, it shuts it down and claims it has a malicious virus called "W32/blaster.worm". I know it's lying to me though, it is the virus...I just can't stop it.
I imagine once Norton can finish installing, I'll be able to cull it...but I can't get Norton to finish.
See if I ever let my renewal lapse again, ha!
Any ideas?
