I stepped away from my laptop last night while online and came back to see that all the Google Chrome tabs were grey with sad face folders at the top. Nothing would open, not the Chrome settings tabs or browser tabs, nothing. I ran Norton and it didn't find anything. Internet Explorer still worked but when I went to download additional rootkit / spyware/ malware programs, I noticed that I cannot download anything either. It will start the download no matter what site or file I try and show the %, then when complete it wont open and says "file cannot be downloaded". It does this with anything I try to save, save as, or download and run. It does this whether its a file from the internet or even something I am trying to download and save from an email attachment. Ran Norton, Norton Power Eraser, and two other well known antivirus / malware programs, a few of which I had on a usb drive and ran from there. They all found some things and removed them, but I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and nothing still works. I havnt used IE for my browser in awhile but I went in since its the only way I can access the web since Chrome seems to be blocked by whatever happened, and noticed that in Internet Explorer settings, there is an active extension called conytinuetuosave that's enabled and will not allow you to disable it. I searched for where it says the file is located at in C:program files and nothing exists there. This is the only noticeable thing I see that doesn't look right that all the scans didn't pick up. I dont know if this is causing the problem, but there has to be something that is blocking Chrome as well as anything being downloaded and saved or ran. Any help would be appreciated to fix this..
