I live in Italy. During the past year I have routinely been attacked by viruses and trojan horses that are contained in attachments and zip files attached to emails puportedly from UPS or FEDEX. The one I received today was longer than usual and complained that I had not contacted them to tell them how to deliver my parcel. In the past, this has been merely an irritating scam and I have consistently deleted the emails from my Thunderbird Inbox (without opening the attachments) and then deleted them from the Trash. However, when NIS does its scheduled scans, it apparently disturbs the attachment(s) and they proceed to create mischief in my inbox. That was the way it was until today. Today, the virus/trojan horse wiped out the inbox, the trash file, and corrupted the APPDATA file to the point that I was unable to work. I had to restore my backup files, run chkdsk, and finally use the Restore feature of W7--all in an attempt to try to get my APPDATA file in workable condition. I think I've finally succeeded but I have a question for folks who are more knowledgable about these things than I am. What more can I do to delete these emails from my computer than merely deleting them from the inbox and the trash file? That doesn't seem to discourage them!
