You might also have a read through this thread NIS 2008 Install crashed XP in case the solution – a faulty NIC card – or suggestions en route could be helpful.
I want to share my experience with the community about the problem I reported beginning of July. At that time my new computer didn't boot anymore which seemed first to me this would be related to NIS. But meanwhile after several time consuming weeks of failure search I was able to detect two problems:
1. Harddrive faulty, didn't work reliable, damaged system files during shutdown process
2. USB WLAN stick from AVM created the problem (installed other virus scanner to cross check situation as well as checked standard LAN cable connection)
Since I have now installed the new harddrive together with the use of a standard LAN cable connection everything works fine. Also with NIS.
I have a problem with Vista and NIS 2008. When having NIS 2008 installed Vista doesn't boot anymore. I'm forced to run the system repair tool to fix the problem for startup, but at next startup the problem is the same. Meanwhile I have 3 times reinstalled Vista as well as NIS 2008 and having always the identical problem.
Here a short info about my system:
Vista Home Premium
BuildNumber: 6001
BuildType: Multiprocessor Free
CodeSet: 1252
CountryCode: 49
CSDVersion: Service Pack 1
Version: 6.0.6001
Windows Defender: productEnabeld True | Win32_Service.Name="WinDefend", started: false
NIS 2008: productEnabeld True, versionNumber 15.5.0.23
Can anybody help? The ultimate solution will be to uninstall NIS and ask my money back...
Bernhard

I think it would help the experts work on this if you would describe a bit more fully what happens and at exactly what stage.
If you have your BIOS set to Verbose with no flash screen (both settings in the Award/ASUS BIOS's I have) you can see what is happening along the way to the point where Windows itself is starting to load and knowledge of this may give a clue.
When it just "doesn't boot any more" are you getting a black screen or a blue screen or what? Are there any error messages and if so exactly what do they say?
The more information you can give the more you can be helped with a frustrating situation -- which I've never run into with NIS so far.
