VISTA SP1 FREEZES AFTER NORTON 360 Ver. 2 INSTALL THROUGH BOOT CAMP

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my 24 inch iMac through a Boot Camp partition. All boot camp drivers were updated to the latest versions, Vista SP1 was installed and the OS updated through Windows update. My problem is after a successful installation of Norton 360 2.0, the routine maintainence checks get completed successfully, but when I try to run Live Update, the system freezes midway and becomes unresponsive and can be restarted by pressing the power switch only. After this, whenever the system restarts, whether or not I run Live Update, the system randomly freezes and becomes completely unresponsive within a few minutes to a few hours. (usually within say thirty minutes or so). If I try to run Live Update, the system freezes midway through the procedure.

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, formating but it ends up the same way once I install Norton 360 2.0 and try to run Live Update.

The Mac side of my system works just fine and is giving absolutely no problems whatsoever which pretty much rules out a hardware issue.

In fact, I have the same configuration running through Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro laptop and it works superbly there without any problems whatsoever.

I tried reading all the forums, chatting with support but the problem want go away.

Have been a loyal fan of Norton products since the past so many years and dont want to switch to another product, so will appreciate any help or suggestions.

Regards

Thank you for your feedback mythbuster. Tried the procedure recommended by you with no luck. The problem is that now it is not just during a Live Update but even if I am working on the computer for between 15 minutes to half hour while Norton is running in the background, the system just freezes and becomes unresponsive.

Have spoken with both Apple and Microsoft with no luck. Hoping to find a solution here

Open the cmd window (needs to be run as administrator)

System File Checker can be useful in such situations.

sfc /scannow

When that is done, click on your Windows partition “Properties” and go to Tools and “check for errors” which will have to be scheduled for next startup.

Also, before installing or making changes, restore points are helpful, as is booting from Vista DVD and letting it do system repairs.

You may need to uninstall and reinstall N360 and reinstall.
