VPN 20% cpu 0% network Very High power usage

I noticed my laptop fan on high and my computer working very hard. Opened my task manager, Norton VPN was going nuts. I am worried about this being I was not connected to a network. Any ideas why VPN would need to function at this rate for 5 minutes?

Looks like a new version of the Norton VPN included in the new 360 products has just been released. Please run LiveUpdate from your 360.

See the product announcement here.    https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/norton-secure-vpn-22-windows-has-been-released

There are others with the VPN feature included with the new 360 products. I'll add your thread to the list we are creating for Norton to address.

See this thread and those linked in that thread.    https://community.norton.com/en/forums/thoroughly-confused-upgrade-nis-premium-norton-360-w-lifelock-select-plus

This was downloaded with Norton 360.

I only have a WiFi connection and at that time it was not connected. Unless someone hacked into my computer. It may have been running an update from previous restart, not sure. It did not say that I was running an update from my Start>Power>Shut Down.

This was the first time I noticed this activity, I have restarted my computer. I have not heard my fan go crazy sense.

Do you have the stand alone installation of Norton Secure VPN, or is it part of the new Norton 360 product?

And you were not connected to a network, or were you just not using a connected network connection at the time?  If, say, a Windows update was being downloaded in the background, the VPN would be active for that.

Does this happen all the time, or did it just happen once?

Have you restarted your computer to test again?
