VPN blocks MS Outlook

I had to pay an IT pro to discover that Norton's VPN was blocking my email access. Norton should provide a warning or a tutorial on this when one attempts to activate a VPN. And by the way, I would have SO MUCH MORE respect for them if their CSRs learned English as a FIRST language.

I do not think this is just a Norton issue. There has been a huge push by VPN vendors over the last few years. They make it sound like a set and forget app, but as many are finding out, there is more to it than that. Many web sites and online services do not allow access from known VPN IP addresses. They do this for copyright, legal, security, and political reasons. There is nothing a VPN provider can or should do to circumvent these legal protections.

For email providers, they are usually just trying to protect your account. They see someone is trying to access the account from a location they do not expect for that account, so they either block it or request additional verification that it is really you. If you are using a local copy of MS Outlook, you can add the executable file for Outlook to the Split Tunnel feature of the Norton VPN. Here is a Norton blog article on how to set this up.   https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-service-announcements/enable-split-tunnel-norton-secure-vpn
