VPN Has multiple bugs

Windows 10 and VPN - Downloading free VPN has caused multiple annoying problems. I have contacted Norton and gave them remote control of my computer. They did their analysis and  came to the conclusion that I must select VPN each time I log on. He concluded it was not automatic after all. Fine, no big deal since my laptop is very seldom used on non-secure networks anyway. The bigger annoyance is that when I attempt to either restart or shut down, I get an error message that specifically states this action is being blocked by VPN. So then I select "Shut down Anyway" and it does so. The biggest annoyance is that it appears that VPN is also  blocking Adobe Flash Player when I want to watch television (Comcast/Xfinity wifi and cable service). Like the shut down problem, I have to "allow" Adobe "once". This occurs even though Adobe is already in my settings and is turned on. Apparently VPN finds Adobe suspicious even on my secure home network, and with VPN NOT Turned On. I wish I had not downloaded VPN in the first place. We will not add it to our other devices and will not pay for it when my subscription is up. It was not ready for prime time and is full of bugs.

These would be browser settings.  I click on edge and my Xfinity home page comes up. I click on the three dots on the top right, and a menu comes down containing things like print and other stuff. I click on settings, and another menu comes down, including an item termed advanced. When I click on Advanced it shows Adobe Flash, and I can toggle it off or on. It is always set to on. I have Windows 10 - version 1809

I suspect now the Adobe Flash glitch is with Windows. Windows 10 pestered me daily to do some updating. Maybe I should not have given in.

The bottom line for me is that I can wait until these annoyances go away. I did try to uninstall VPN on my own, but it is not segregated. Thanks for your time. I consider this thread solved.

And, when I go to settings/advance settings, it, in fact, shows Adobe is there and it is turned on.

Are these Norton 360 settings or a browser setting? We have to ask as we do not have access to the new 360 product.

Just so you are aware, according to this Product Announcement, the new 360 offering is still a beta product. If you do not wish to continue being a guinea pig, you can contact Norton Support and ask them to help you revert back to the current Norton Security product. Other users here have done this.   www.norton.com/contactcs

EDIT

About the Shutdown error.  What version of Win 10 do you have? Are you on the insider builds?

Have you disabled Windows Fast Startup feature that can interfere with software getting fully updated and reset?  If you use Windows 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

Thanks. You are correct that I have Norton 360. I have had Norton for more than 12 years so I get the new version each year. And if something new comes along during the year, they always let me upgrade for free until my anniversary date. The option to allow Adobe "Always" does NOT appear as an option. My only selection is to allow once.   This is despite the fact that Adobe came with my 2-year old laptop with Windows 10 when I bought it new  from the HP store. And, when I go to settings/advance settings, it, in fact, shows Adobe is there and it is turned on. It only gets blocked when I try to watch television via my Xfinity wifi. I have never had this quirk before with any computer during the four years we have been in this house and connected to Comcast/Xfinity. Rightly or wrongly, I assumed there was a connection between my new problem and my new VPN.  I guess it could be associated with updates to Windows 10. I recently did a suggested update to Windows 10, and lost my facial recognition. The Windows people took remote control of my computer and fixed that one. I never asked them about the Adobe quirk. But thanks for your input.

It sounds as though you have installed the new Norton 360 product?

If so, the warning at shutdown has already been reported here.  The standalone version of the Norton Secure VPN is working fine. There seems to be some problems with the integration into the new 360.

I have to "allow" Adobe "once". This occurs even though Adobe is already in my settings and is turned on. Apparently VPN finds Adobe suspicious even on my secure home network, and with VPN NOT Turned On.

This is not related to the VPN feature. It does not block individual programs on your computer. What settings are you referring to? You mention "allow Adobe once". If you want to allow Adobe all the time, you need to "allow always".

Oh Shoot. The Shutdown error came back. I hate intermittent problems. The message says that "the instruction at 0x00000000511E4B4 referenced in memory at 0+0000000000000004 is the problem. Like any of that means anything to me. I guess I am back to my original position that Norton used its customers to complete its Research and Development. VPN was not satisfactorly  debugged before it was launched.

Update to the above. When I was chatting with Norton, the person I dealt with said he would pass my concerns up the line to his management,  Now, today, magically my computer shuts down without the error messages. So I guess my only remaining problem is how to get VPN to stop blocking Adobe Flash player. I certainly can live with selecting VPN manually since I won't use it that often anyway.
