Issue abstract: VPN keeps resetting.
Detailed description: VPN keeps resetting. Whenever it resets it temporarily knocks out the internet. This happens several times a day.
Product & version number: Norton 360 Platinum
OS details: Windows 11
What is the error message you are seeing? A message appears stating the VPN is connecting
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
It looks like it’s because is blocking the protocol WireGuard. Do you have a VPN protocol switch in your settings?
What is WireGuard? Where do I find it?
I do not see it on my laptop.
I see VPN settings under Norton 360 such as:
-
Split Tunneling
-
Kill Switch
-
Enable multiple active VPN’s
-
Access Local Devices with VP
It was not doing this before, so it could be associated with a Windows or Norton update
It has been doing this the last three or four weeks
@Warren_Legge Are you by chance, allowing your laptop to sleep/hibernate and see this when it returns from one of those states, to normal usage?
SA
WireGuard is a VPN tunneling protocol. In Norton 360, it is used by default if there are no VPN protocol switching settings. The protocol used for the connection can be seen in the security log when the VPN is enabled.
No, this is happening while the laptop in in use.
In task manager, I can now see the tunneling protocol.
I assume is the process called Norton VPN WireGuard Tunnel process.
In other words the process is running
Thanks, I forgot ask if you are WiFi or Ethernet connected. If WiFi your signal may be dropping during use, depending on how many devices are connected. Have you checked your router settings to make sure you have adequate signal strength? Just trying to touch as many bases with this as possible.
SA
I understand you are trying to cover off the bases here. You are correct, It is a WIFI connection, but for the most part I am the only one using it.
If I turn the VPN off, then these issues disappear.
When I turn the VPN back on then the issues come back.
So based on this I do not think it is a WIFI issue, it is a Norton VPN issue.
Obviously I would prefer using Norton with the VPN and on top of that I have paid for that version and service.
