VPN Location

@Howard_Wasserman

I am in NC. My location while using VPN shows up as in VA, a bordering state. Can I select a state instead of VA?

Hello @Howard_Wasserman
Welcome to the Norton Community!

Norton VPN for Mac offers access to 25 cities within the United States, providing extensive domestic coverage. This network is part of a broader global infrastructure that spans over 130+ server locations across more than 65 countries.

Users can manually select these specific U.S. cities to optimize for faster speeds or access geo-restricted content. The service also includes advanced privacy features such as Double VPN and IP Rotation to enhance anonymity while connected.

Configure Norton VPN settings on Mac

Norton VPN offers two ways to refresh your IP:
Manual IP Refresh — A single-click button (circular arrow icon) that gives you a new IP address while staying connected to the same virtual location . On Mac, click the Refresh IP icon next to the Disconnect button while connected. It’s especially useful when streaming fails, sites won’t load, or CAPTCHAs keep appearing.

IP Rotation (automatic) — Automatically changes your IP address every 30 seconds in the background, without breaking your connection. This helps prevent tracking, avoid targeted ads, and evade IP-based blocks. You can enable it from the Advanced Servers section in the location picker.

Both features work on Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS. The manual option gives you on-demand control, while IP Rotation runs continuously for maximum anonymity.

Refresh IP does not change your geographic location. As Norton’s support docs state, once the refresh completes, “your IP address is refreshed (same location, new IP ).” You stay connected to the same city/country server — only the IP address assigned to you within that location changes.

To actually change your virtual location, you need to use the Change VPN Location option (the drop-down arrow next to the country name) and select a different city or country.
