Unfortunately, SOL is correct. As far as the ISP; my personal experience is that it just does not matter (have two, and I can take my Laptop to my daughters house and it still doesn't work). I can temporarily restore the VPN by clearing and restoring my WAN but that it only a temp fix.
The only service I use from Norton now is as an Outlook SPAM filter.
Been with Norton since I built my first computer, a dual floppy.... Guess those days are over.
So am I to understand that those of us whose VPN stopped working after the 22.20.1.69 update are just SOL?
Because between demanding a credit card number to activate software purchased from a legitimate third party site and then quietly removing functionality that was part of said purchase (VPN)...
Not acknowledging or explaining why the change on their end could cause problems,
and then not even having the courtesy to send customers an e-mail telling them that the VPN might no longer work depending on their ISP?!
I expect that sort of thing from a free phone app, not a "premium" product.
I've stuck with Norton for many years, but this is pretty shabby. I'm done.
FWIW!! The IP leaking issue in the VPN appears to be working ATM on my end. Screenshot is below. That being said, the VPN STILL leaks DNS information. And to be clear, the Norton VPN does NOT utilize IPV6. Your ISP may or may not and/or IPV6 may also be a requirement on their parts. Most ISP's haven't gone mainstream with IPV6 to date.
Cheers
Did that on New Egg Positive for anti virus. Negative for VPN. I said that if anyone is considering buy Norton for the VPN they should come here and read the comments.
The IP / DNS leaks have been reported.
wow, and here I thought the problem is fixed. Yes, VPN showed that it is connected and data being protected, but clicking https://whatismyipaddress.com/ immediately showed my exact IP, location, and IP provider. There's no VPN protection whatsoever.....OMG, it is cheating on Norton's part! Anyone else getting this!!!
If you are on WiFi try this. Disconnect from WiFi (VPN will turn off), give it a few seconds and reconnect. Then reconnect VPN.
I use https://whatismyipaddress.com/ but whatever you like is fine.
There is another new behaviour of Norton VPN. I click "Turn on" it indicates that it connects successfully: "Your data is protected" . But when I checked my IP with http://whatismyip.com It shows my local service provider, that is cheating.
I am using IPv4 (NOTE: IPv6 leaks on Norton). VPN works some of the time but it is such a pain to use that I am going elsewhere.... However, I did get Norton to work by using the WAN work around I posted some time ago.
This is a Norton problem, they are still auto billing for services they cannot provide.
From what I understand Norton have switched to IPv6 from IPv4 so I am told by my ISP.... So the chances of having this problem fixed are (0)….
To use IPv6, you’ll need three things: An IPv6-Compatible Operating System: Your operating system’s software must be capable of using IPv6. A Router With IPv6 Support: Many — maybe even most — consumer routers in the wild don’t support IPv6. An ISP With IPv6 Enabled: Your Internet service provider must also have IPv6 set up on their end.
I need to provide logs and they solved their VPN problems with imaginary "home server" certificate deletions and other nonsense. How it is strange that only for "Norton Fighters" everything is fine but for the rest of us VPN doesn't work.
From the note on home server, I assume you are speaking of my reply. In that reply, I noted that obviously not everyone has a home server, and that on my particular system configuration, that was the issue blocking the VPN. Through users sending logs, Norton has been able to identify many issues causing the VPN problems. Did you send your logs?
The Norton Fighters are not immune to these and any other issues.
Exactly my point - and when I tried to say that all workarounds are total rubbish and it is Norton's fault I've been given lessons from 'very smart' so called "Norton Fighters" that every system is different and how I need to provide logs and they solved their VPN problems with imaginary "home server" certificate deletions and other nonsense. How it is strange that only for "Norton Fighters" everything is fine but for the rest of us VPN doesn't work.
Wow, I just spent 20 minutes trying to find a place to comment here, just to have this "add reply" box suddenly appear! Thought I was losing my mind!
I have been experiencing this same issue (I think) for a few weeks now, and have tried all the usual uninstall, reinstall, delete all registry entries, etc. to no avail. When I eventually found this thread about the 22.20.1.69 update potentially being the problem it at least gave me an idea.
I looked through my old downloads folder and found an older installer: 22.19.9.63 (from January I believe?)
I uninstalled Norton, restarted my pc, reinstalled using the old installer, and immediately tried connecting with the vpn, and it started fine. I then tried liveupdate which downloaded a bunch of definitions which it installed, but it also told me it had a process update available. I told it to update later. Upon restarting my pc however, the vpn was once again not working, so I checked and sure enough the update had been applied. So I'm pretty sure I can say this update is the problem.
I don't know if this helps. I'm just trying to add my two cents worth in case it helps someone find a solution.
Edit: I just tried (almost) the same process a second time, with similar results. This time I ran liveupdate with the vpn active. I let it download and process the definitions, and the vpn remained active. I then let it process the available update which shut down the vpn; now I have the error again.
I have the same
problem as everyone else. I have been online with "senior techs" for over 8 hours that tell me I need 2 internet connections to fix the problem. I hooked up my iphone for a hotspot, and then they disappear. I tell the next tech what needs to be done and they continue to do all of the same things (numerous times) that have been done before and waste more of my time. This is totally unacceptable and I will be canceling my service if this is not addressed within a week. The VPN works on everything except where I need it the most, my desktop! Case # 41889805

BUZZZ! "I don't think so Tim."
1. If everyone who hasn't had VPN "since update 22.20.1.69 "connection failure" error" wrote a brief review, at the web pages of vendors that sell this product, that their VPN hasn't worked since January, that is a way to complain. Start with the biggest vendors that allow you to review the product. Mention phrases: "Like others with this problem". Put "VPN still not working" in the review title.
2. "Thumbs up" all the reviews there that ARE the same problem you have.
3. Less important: Also reference this forum, that there are a meager few who might find a solution for themselves and how easy it is to post here if it's still not working for you. You probably can't post the link, but can tell them to Internet search for:
VPN-not working since update 22.20.1.69 "connection failure" error

Wondering if free speech is allowed here.
You are not alone.
Don't know what has happened to Norton staff.
They fail to acknowledge there is a problem.
All they need to do is build a new platform from the ground up AND they have the IT people to do it.
I am glad to know that I am not alone in having this long standing problem. Like many others who have already reported this, my VPN was working fine until I downloaded 22.20.1.69. Now it simply does not work anymore. I have tried self help by printing off, and following the suggested 'fixes', all of which have not worked in my case. Somewhat foolishly, I had taken advantage of the free upgrade from my old and trusted 360 which has kept me safe for many years, to the new 360 VPN which has now stopped working. Apart from this, are there any other parts of Norton 360 that are also not working that I am not aware of ? With the lack of a speedy solution to this problem, my confidence in Symantec/Norton has taken quite a knock. After many, many years of being protected by Norton, is now the time to change I wonder.
Tried it. Didn't work for me.
You are right, there is no place to complain and what is much worse is there is no support in this country.
My VPN only works sometimes and I never use the password or the backup to the cloud. Because of this I will not use the heavily advertised Lifelock. Really concerned about who can access my personal info since this started.
My VPN was working fine until Sunday evening.
I tried to open it and was advised there was a connection failure, after that I could not open the Norton control panel.
As per Norton's advice I did an NR&R, still no control panel. Uninstalled only & restarted computer and then reinstalled, still nothing, then all other recommended actions, nothing.
Contacted Norton support via online chat they asked if I had done the above, I confirmed and they advised "they could help" but via their remote connection. But my ISP wouldn't allow a remote connection so I had to terminate my chat and contact my internet provider to ask them to switch off their homesafe, that took some effort but eventually got it done.
Contacted Norton support again using my Case number but had to explain everything again.
Norton connected remote but then repeated everything I had already done, nothing new except removing some user files, still nothing worked. Then advised being transferred to a technician who could help me.
I was then abandoned for one hour and twenty minutes with the remote connection disconnecting & reconnecting every 1 to 2 minutes advising "a technician would be with me shortly".
I then terminated the remote connection and one last time did an NR&R and this time the panel & VPN worked.
On Monday everything was still ok and I did a manual live update which resulted in a patch downloading. After I restarted the computer the VPN & panel agian failed.
I did did yet another NR&R (the nineth done either be me or Norton since Sunday night) this time the panel worked but there was no sign of VPN apart from the link in "My Norton". There are no other links ie in the taskbar or any files/folders.
There is an orphaned link called "Program" in startup but the VPN folder that it is linked to is missing.
I can only assume that Norton now have removed VPN from their programme.
This is sad because I have used a Norton antivirus for over 20 years and have found it extremely reliable and for the last 12 months my computer has been completely trouble free until Sunday night.
My confidence in Norton and also my computer has been affected.
The total time I had to spend dealing with this problem was 6 hours, It started at 8:00 pm and I got the VPN to work at 2:00am.
There is no where to complain so I have no other option but to post this here.
