VPN won't connect uless I disable Smart Firewall

Running WIN XP SP3.  My VPN, Nortel Contivity VPN Client 6.01.  only way I can have my VPN connect is to disable the smart firewall.  What are my options to correct this?

What was installed first?  Nortel or NIS?  You will need to uninstall NIS and install Nortel first. Then reinstall Norton.  It should work then.
