VProConsole error message

I am unable to install ghost 15.0 on an XP Sp3 machine. I can get as far as entering the registration number, but after that I anything I try to do causes a "VProConsole needs to close" error message.

I read that Net Framework 2.0sp2 can cause this so I ran the Net Framework Troubleshooter and re-installed Net Framework 2.0sp2 (twice). I also re-installed Ghost 15.0 but nothing helps.

I  also tried to log a service request, but it will not accept Ghost 15.0 as a valid version number.

Of course this is the one PC that I really need Ghost to run on!!

HELP!!!

Welcome,
Which version of what security software are you running? Have you run any scans?

Thanks

Until you get the problem sorted, if you need a backup you can image your systemm using the recovery disk.

Dave

This sytem is running a fully up to date copy of McAffee Security Center. McAffee does not report any problems. Nothing else on this system seems to have any problems eithe, just Ghost.

I can't get far enough to make a recovery disk!

You don't make the recovery disk, you only "customize" it by adding drivers if you need them

But for the majority of systems it works just fine how it is.

You can download one here if you don't already have one.  If you purchased the retail package your installation disk is bootable and also works as the recovery disk.

Yes, I have the retail package CD so I could do a one-time backup with the CD but that doesn't entirely solve my problem. I have Ghost set up to do scheduled backups on two Win7 PC's and I need to get it to work on one XP machine also.

I tried disabling the firewall and also re-installing Net Famework (again) but still no luck. The error code is 0xe0434f4d (unhandled exception). The Ghost internal error code is E1AF5A19 (unknown error).

I am still not sure why the support site won't let me log a service request for Ghost 15.

Is the DCOM Server Process Launcher service runnng?

Yes, it is running.

If you go into services.msc, you can look at the few services related to Norton Ghost. Click on the dependencies tab and drill down to make sure all services are available and running.

Plug and Play

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

 -DCOM Server Process Launcher

 -RPC Endpoint Mapper

Windows Event Log

I'm running SSR 2013, but Ghost is similar. I think you also have a SymSnap service you can check.

All of those are running.

I'm out of ideas. Check the Windows Event Log and see if ther are any (other) errors at the same time you try to input the key. Hopefully someone else has some ideas.

Is all other software running OK?

Yes, everything else runs OK.

I did check the Windows error logs. Nothing shows up other than the VProConsole and Net Runtime errors. They don't provide any useful information.

I guess the only thing left is to try running the Net Cleanup Tool and re-install Net Framework 2.0 thru 3.5. That's a SCARY thought!!

Well ............ I went through the exercise of removing ALL of the net framework from that PC using the Net Framework Cleanup Tool. I then re-installed the lastest version of each of the Net Framework modules (1.1 [includes 1.0], 3.5 [includes 2.0 and 3.0], and 4) and installed all of the updates to those. (21 updates and MANY reboots to get there.)

Then I re-installed Norton Ghost and all of this made no difference at all!!! I am still getting exactly the same VProConsole error.

Open Internet explorer and paste this into the address bar:

On the box that pops up, are you sure ".Net CLR 2.0.50727" is listed?

Thats .Net 2.x, I'm sure you will have others for 3.5 and 4 but I'm curious about 2

edit- the forum is changing what I'm trying to type, let me try something else

I found it here, paste the line out of the purple box into IE.

http://www.walkernews.net/2008/05/16/how-to-check-net-framework-version-installed/

Yep, Net Framework 2.0.50727 is installed.

I have been trying to contact Norton tech support, but I'm not having much luck with that either. The 800# wait time is over 30 minutes.

I spent nearly 3 hours with tech support on a remote connection today and they were unable to resolve the problem either. I guess I don't feel quite so bad now!

Another two hours with two more tech reps on remote support and still not fixed. Their answer now is that something is wrong with Windows XP.

Well ....... if that's true then why are all the rest of my application programs working fine??

I guess they are going to try again tomorrow.

You're not gonna believe this!!! It is fixed and purely by accident!!

I spent today recovering from all the changes that tech support made to my system while trying to isolate the problem. In the process of doing that I decided to update the drivers for my Logitech wireless desktop. As soon as I did that the problem went away (mostly).

I still get an error message that Services was stopped on a reboot, but after I clear that error message everything seems to work correctly. I suspect that the error message may happen because the backup files are located on a network drive. There is a delay at startup before the services module can access the backup files which may be causing that error. I do not get that error on the Winows 7 PCs.
