I want to do all my backups manually and don't need vprosvc running all the time. How do I set this service to run manually when starting Ghost. If I shut down the service, Ghost won't start because the service is not running. I need the service to start up when I start Ghost. How can I do this?

To do what you are asking would not be a supported use of Norton Ghost. VProSvc is an essential part of Norton Ghost that is why Ghost will not start when you have shut it down.
If you want to do only manual backups, you define a backup job with no schedule. Then when you want to backup, the easiest way is to right-click on the little Ghost icon in the System Tray and choose the backup job from the Run Backups menu item.
