Wanting to re-install Norton - why does Symantec make it so difficult for people to contact them?

Mesage I tried to send to Symantec help/support/customer service:

I purchased Norton Antivirus last year online.  The hard drive of the computer it was installed on died recently.  I now have a new laptop and wish to install norton on that but have lost all details as they were on other PC.  Are you able to supply purchase details/product key so I can re-install.  It was, I think, a three year agreement I purchased.  The email I used was the one below.

Unfortunately - Norton support will not accept emails unless you supply them with a product key - so catch22.  I cannot imagine my situation is unique - I am sure it is extremely common.  yet in order to contact them I have been forced to register on this forum?  Surely an unacceptable way for any company to behave?  When my hard drive died I had, naturally to re-install lost of software.  Symantec is, do date, the only company who have made this all but impossible to do.  Despite lots of searching on there site, theer is no where one can simply email them with a query.  Come on guys - this makes you look like you simply want people's money.  So how about providing some help as you're still regularly taking my money for this product???
