Does anyone know what watchthread is and is it malware? I’ve run scans and they say my system is clear.
Google offers lots of hits → but, no definitive help.
Did you clear browser cookies n cache?
Do you run browser sync?
Did you recently install any program / browser extension?
Did you recently allow push notifications?
Did you recently change site permissions?
Did you run Norton Full Scan?
Did you run Malwarebytes Scan?
@laraiajw Malwarebytes forum that @bjm suggested is a good resource.
By chance, are you able to search your computer for watchthread.exe, which according to some people posting on different forums is the app in question. If you can locate it, don’t double click it but instead upload the app to VirusTotal.com. You can drag and drop on VirusTotal’s homepage. It scans uploaded apps using many security vendors and reports if anyone flagged it as a malware or suspicious. If you click on the Details tab across the top of the scan results, it will you with the files hash, the app publisher, the date created, etc. It also runs the app in a couple of sandboxes but that process takes more time. As an example, I uploaded the Norton 360 remover to show you what it looks like. I couldn’t fit all the security vendors but captured most on the first two screenshots. The screenshot of the Details page left some information off. VirusTotal is free to use. I always upload apps and check them (even ones I download from Norton or other trusted websites) before installing on my computers.
@laraiajw Do you use FireFox as your browser on this machine? If so please read the following article:
