I have been getting a threat message when using this website. Anybody else getting this?
Hello Mike5412,
If this is the same address, Norton Safe Web has detected some threats:
http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=wunderground.com
Yes, the url is www.wunderground.com. I use it all the time and never had a problem until today.
Did you look at the Norton Full Report?
I would have thought that the first two links are to weather pages for the locations specified in the links.
The third which is a link to a file callled install_whas11.exe
has plenty of messages about this if you do a google on it. Here's the list I got:
Some of them are Norton Safe Web blogs.
Like others I've used it for years but this is the first time I've seen a Norton Red (X) on it.
I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station and upload data to Weather Underground constantly. I've never seen problems with security risks until now.
However in my case I have an external device (Meteohub) which uploads to the weather underground site so my computer is not involved in the data exchange.
Nevertheless this is disturbing because I do occasionally check my data from the computer. It would seem their website has been compromised.
I will check from my test laptop a way I can possibly notify the site administrator of this problem.
Hopefully they will get this corrected soon.
Allen
Hi Folks,
There have been a lot of positive user reviews about Weather Underground but of particular interest is the following review, posted only about 2 hours ago.
http://safeweb.norton.com/reviews/103393
It looks like the Weather Underground staff has been notified of the problem. I will continue to monitor this situation from my test laptop and post back when I have more information.
Even though the review indicates that a reply from Weather Underground staff has indicated there is no actual risk to visitors I must advise caution. As we all know, websites can be compromised at any time.
Best wishes.

for 2011 product reference...an event as this would have rendered a Full Page Block ....is that correct?
as already stated ..this is first time I've seen X
thanks Mike5412 for posting Topic
thanks AllenM for info

Hi bjm_
Yes that is correct, on 2011 it would have been a full page block.
On some other news, after I saw the email alert for your reply I checked again and I find that WeatherUnderground no longer shows a red X. I've checked both computers and both NIS 2010 and 2011 no longer shows risks for the website.
Safe web also shows no threats now. Please see the following link.

Who knows? It could have been a couple of possibilities.
1. Weather Underground was compromised (similar to youtube) and they got it resolved and worked with the safe web team to upgrade the rating.
2. Could have been some temporary glitch with safe web rating.
Main thing in my book is that it got resolved.
Best wishes.

When I googled on the exe file listed as the third risk, one message had a reference to Adaware having spotted it and had it under discussion with Norton so maybe the ran it through their test procedure and OK'd the elements considered to be risks?
You're right. I just heard from the team that the reported malware was removed from the site, and our SafeWeb team manually analyzed the Website and changed the ratings to green.

Good to know that Norton was correctly doing its job -- however odd it might seem!
