Norton Utilities-----I occasionally run the registry clean and defrag feature and the clean disk feature.
I like the Web Login feature to save user-name and password information from my most visited websites and to have this information auto filled into the appropriate locations for each of these websites. Utilizing this feature allows me to just enter a master password into the Web logins section of Norton Internet Security and then have the ability to login to my favorite websites without having to remember that websites login information.
I have been experiencing problems with this feature (Web auto-login) where it will not auto complete my favorite website logins. I have contacted Norton Support several times about this particular problem and the only solution I received was to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2010 and then re-install the program using the disk I have with the accompanying product key. This solution works, but the problem reoccurs after I run a series of maintenance tasks. I tried to isolate which task was contributing to my problem by starting from a clean installation of Norton Internet Security 2010 and one at a time running an individual task then try utilizing the auto fill login feature. The following test procedure was as follows:
- I ran Clean Registry using Norton Utilities------------Web auto fill feature worked
- I ran the Clean Disk feature in Norton Utilities_____Web auto fill feature worked
- I ran Live Update in Norton Internet Security----------Web auto fill feature worked
- I ran Quick Scan in Norton Internet Security-----------Web auto fill feature worked
- I ran a Full Scan in Norton Internet Security-----------Web auto fill feature worked
- I Rebooted the computer----------------------------------Web auto fill feature worked
- I Defragged the Registry using Norton Utilities----Web auto fill feature worked
- I Cleaned the Disks using Norton Utilities------------Web auto fill feature worked
- I rebooted the computer---------------------------------Web auto fill feature worked
- I Defragged the local drives with the Windows utility-------Web auto fill feature worked
- I rebooted the computer----------------------------------Web auto fill feature worked
I attempted all these tasks in one day and could not find proof that any of them prevented the Web auto fill feature from working properly, so I shut down the computer for the day.
The next day, I turned the computer on, entered my master password to utilize the Web auto fill feature, ran Live Update, and ran a Quick Scan in Norton Internet Security. Next I tried to login to my Yahoo account to look at my email. The Web auto fill feature would not work. I tried to login to Ebay, but the Web auto fill feature would still not work. I did not change any settings. There must be a reason why the Web auto fill feature stopped working from the day before when it was working perfectly fine.
I can probably uninstall Norton Internet Security 2010 again and then re-install it from disk, but if I repeat any of the above tasks again, the Web auto fill feature will probably disappear like before.
