Website given unsafe rating

My classsroom website was suddenly given an unsafe rating this evening, but i am not sure why.  I tried to upload the verification file, but cannot find the root directory (I use a redirect to host the site).  I have uploaded the verification file to the FTP space, however.  Site address is vmstv.com  Can someone from Norton help me?

Hello dougteach,

You site was rated unsafe for the reasons listed here. I would first check into these issues listed by Norton Safe Web.

In order to dispute the rating, you will have to verify ownership of the site. This may be more complicated due to the redirect.

What site building program are you using? If you cannot access the root directory, you can add the nortonsw authentication code by means of a Meta Tag to your Main (Home) Page.

You can create this new tag using your site building program. Use nortonsw as the file name and the full authentication code as the content. The File Content or authentication code is the very long alphanumeric code that would have been sent in your email registration.

When viewing the source code for your site, be sure this tag is located in the head section of your main page, between <head> and </head>.

Although this method will not allow for the automated verification, it should assist the Safe Web team in verifying ownership of your site.

Let me know when you have completed this step and I will check that the code is properly located and then notify Safe Web.

For better exposure, I will ask the moderators to break your post out of this thread and create a new one.

Thanks, Phil.  I have added the Meta Tag, but perhaps because it is a redirect I am still getting the error message that the site verification has failed.  Perhaps the Norton team will be able to see the nortonsw file another way.

I will await to hear from somebody.

Thanks again.

Okay, I just viewed your source code and the meta tag looks good.

Using this method will not allow for the automated verification process, so you do not have to pursue that. The Safe Web Team will have to manually verify your ownership now that you have placed the authentication code.

I'll flag you post to their attention. They visit these boards quite often, but give them a day or two to respond. Once ownership has been verified you should then be able to submit a site dispute.

If you have not already done so, in your forum profile under preferences, be sure to check "Automatically Subscribe Me to Threads I Participate In". This way you will be notified by email when there is a reply.

Best Wishes.
