Website redirection?

So today I was waiting for the bus and I was using my mobile (Sony Xperia XZ) to surf the web not connected to any wi-fi hotspots but just using my mobile network which is EE. The browser I was using at the time was Chrome.

I searched into Chrome Tyrion Lannister and clicked on the first link which was a dedicated wiki type page/website which I had visited before without any issues. It loaded as expected, but about 30 seconds into viewing the page it suddenly changed and I saw I was now on some kind of explicit spam type website.

I quickly closed the page and went to view my history. I saw that several web pages had in fact been visited by my browser all with the same web address, except one. I don't think I am allowed to post links in the forums so I won't do it.

I ran a scan with my Norton app on my phone, and it all came back clear. So I don't appear to have any malicious files. But I am concerned as to what happened and what it was.

Is there anyone who might know what kind of attack I have become a victim of and what I should do to make sure I am currently not at risk of any of my info being stolen from undetected malware and how I can avoid this in the future. I will from now on be using Norton safe search on my phone. But any further suggestions and precautions I could take will be welcome as I do not want to experience that again.

Thanks in advance. Liam.

As Peter mentioned, installing AdBlock on your device, might yield positive results. Good that you scanned your phone, that usually clears up any malware/virus concerns. Usually, adware aims for you to view more ads, not to steal the info, but If you think you have been compromised, disconnect from the internet, change all of your important website passwords, and you should be set.

As for the safe browsing experience, I can recommend you to be safer with links, websites, and downloads in general. Be aware of what you are clicking or what you are downloading. If it's a shady file you don't recognize, avoid downloading. If you suspect a link to be malicious, you can test it HERE or HERE. Other than that, you should be safe. Good luck!

If the 'dedicated wiki type page/website which I had visited before without any issues'  has any ads on the page, it could be a maliciously coded ad that caused the redirect.

Try installing an ad blocker on your phone. This has helped on PCs with ad based redirects.
