What did auto fix fix?

Periodically, I will run the auto-fix function in NIS (2012)
It never finds anything to fix, which is great.
However, I just ran. my system was showing green and secure, so there was nothing prompting a need to run it. i just decided to run it.
anyway i ran it and it found something to fix. But I was not watching as it ran, so I do not know what was fixed. When I look at the entry in the logs for history, it shows auto fix corrected something but gave no details.
Now it has me concerned that my NIS is not right ( even though my system shows secure)

I've also no idea what NIS auto fix fixes, but on my installation it can fix a thing (unknown) more that once a day. I can run it and it fixes a problem and them a few hours later I run it again and again it fixes something and so on.

But the really annoying thing is that NIS - or more specifically ccsvchst.exe - is killing my computer by taking over 100% of the CPU activity for minutes at a time (at least 3 and sometimes up to 10) and doing this every 16 to 20 minutes. It has got to the point that for 40% of the time the computer is unusable as ccsvchst has hijacked it.

I've R&R'd it and reinstalled and it's still the same. I have screen shots of the performance history which can be provided.

OS details: WindowsXPSP3

Two accounts on the machine  - the "second" account seems to be more of a problem but that's not scientifically proven.

I'm getting really frustrated with this issue and may have to give up on Norton totally unless someone can give me some assistance.

Living in hope!

Well this is the first time that auto fix indicated it found a problem.
How can I find what the problem is? As I said my system showed secure

Hi Calls,

Most would agree. There are never 'details' given as to what was specifically fixed. Take a look at this Product Suggestion concerning Norton Autofix.

Yes, when I look at the details of the auto fix entry, it says
“Installation Success”
Mine has been installed for at least 6 months
Now this concerns me if I have been protected all this time AND the fact that my system has been showing secure according to NIS icon (green check mark".
So if I just did not decide to run auto fix, then my NIS would NOT be working?
I’m real confused and concerned right now
Can someone from Norton help me understand this?

So does this mean I need to run auto fix several times a day to make sure NIS is working?

No, you don't; if the program is showing green and you aren't getting any error messages, it's working. Any autofixes at that point is something nonessential and internal to the program and irrelevant to the user. I've had the same experience as you, that autofix "fixes" something when everything was green, and this was after a completely fresh install on a new Windows, with everything working as it should (tested with real malware).

This issue is resolved in v 20.3.1.22 according to the release notes:

“- Resolved issue where Norton Autofix appears after patch installation, showing that one item has been fixed (link)”

Any thought that maybe the auto-fix thing (in this case) may have to do with the messed up Microsoft update that came our Tuesday?

Hi Calls,

Nope!

The fix refers to this thread - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Problems-after-update-20-3/m-p/913647
