What do the extensions do? (FF and IE)

Hi, first of all thank you for Norton Family Online.

 

I have FF-4.0.1 and NSM is disabled.

This trouble will soon be solved. I read it in this forum.

 

My query is: What role does the extension of FF do?

I have observed that even disabling the plugins, the application continues blocking malicious sites.
