What does Norton AntiSpam Do

What does Norton AntiSpam do other than indentifying potential emails that contain spam by adding [Norton AntiSpam] to the Subject?  Can I turn it off by going to Email protection?

 

I keep many emails for reference, and the spam info makes it harder to sort by Subject.

 

I'm running Norton Internet Security 2011.
