My Norton subscription expired, so I bought a new dvd with Norton anti virus software and installed the Norton software again, I was asked at the end of the installation to re-boot which I did
However the installation could not be completed after re-booting because there was an error reading from the dvd drive (I have never had a code 39 before). I checked device manager and the dvd drive was out of order (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark). The only way I could think of to fix that was to do a system restore
With the dvd drive working again I tried another install of Norton AV and after re-booting again I had (shock and horror) lost all my applications! Another system restore and the applications were back again, but none of them worked properly. It has been a massive headache trying to get them to work again, especially Adobe products because they were not deactivated before re-installing and at this time of year no one is answering the phone at Adobe to get them deactivated so that I can activate them
One post here has me crying with tears “Norton is not able to uninstall everything” well it seems like they managed it with me. I have to say that Norton has always worked well enough, but this was such a catastrophic event…..!
I spent Sunday getting MS Office to work again without having to reinstall and Monday I spent reinstalling Adobe products as they were completely dead, I am now waiting for a working day so that I can get the Adobe products re-activated
At the moment I am trying to uninstall the files that the Norton installation placed on my hard drive but that is not working from either the uninstall on the Norton menu or from the control panel. The only way I can think of getting rid of them is to delete them manually and not worry about tidying up the registry
Of course now I am left with the dilemma of what to do about AV software, I am obviously not going to try to install Norton 360 again, and there are also a myriad of other applications that I somehow need to fix because they are not working properly
I have googled this problen and it has happened before, for example:
