***** Background *****
I have an old DELL laptop from 2004 running XP Pro SP3 32b. I have been maintaining it and using it all these years. However, the rest of my PCs are now migrating to WIN7. It will not make the journey. Still I intend to use it for only one thing; running Apple's iTunes to maintain/backup my iPad(s)/iPhone(s).
Effective today, I turned off AUTOMATIC PROGRAM CONTROL and set all existing program entries to BLOCK. There were only a few exceptions: Apple's iTunes, TeamViewer (for remote control), network services, and True Image (for back up). Thus, I will no longer be maintaining the laptop with patches and updates. Just running iTunes and backing it up.
***** Question *****
In 60 days, the NIS subscription on the laptop will expire. I would prefer not to waste money renewing it. I have never permitted a NIS subscription to run beyond expiration. I am hoping that there will be nag screen, it will not run live update, but that the firewall rules in place will continue to function.
So, what will happen when NIS expires? Will the NIS firewall continue to operate?
Thanks.
