What Happens When My Licence Expires?

Hi

I would like to ask what happens when my Norton licence expires.  I currently have NIS 2009 installed for which the licence expires on 21 Sep 09.  I am lead to believe, by Amazon UK, that NIS 2010 is to be released on 2 Oct 09.  I do not want to purchase another year licence of NIS 2009 only for NIS 2010 to be released 2 weeks later and have to spend more money on another Norton Product/Licence.  I realise that I don't have to purchase NIS 2010, but I wish to.

It's a shame that Norton does not do what other like companies do, such as Kaspersky; you purchase a licence and that licence will last, say, 1 year.  If any product upgrades are released, such as product 2009 to product 2010, you can upgrade to the 2010 product for free; you purchase the licence rather than the product, if you get what I mean.

Anyway, my questions are;

1. What happens on 21 Sep 09 when my NIS 2009 licence expires?

2. If I was to renew my NIS 2009 licence, could I then upgrade to NIS 2010 when it comes out for free?

Very many thanks.
