What is a MAC subject to that PC's aren't?

Hi there:

 

I am contemplating buying a Mac, at the next product refresh.

 

Apple says that the Mac is not subject to the same attack vectors that the PC is currently subject to.

 

Is there really any truth to this statement?

 

If so, what protection does  NIS - 5 for Mac provide me that is different from the Windows platform?
